Swim Safety

Swimming is a great way to stay active and cool off, but it’s important to be aware of the risks that come with being in the water. Make sure you or your children are taking swimming lessons so everyone knows how to swim safely. If you have small children, it is essential for them to wear life jackets or floaties at all times. It’s also important to be aware of the depth of the water and if there are any drop-offs.

Never swim alone and always stay alert when watching young ones swim.

Protect Your Skin

Wearing sunscreen is one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Be sure to apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 before you go out into the sun — even if it’s cloudy. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.

Hydrate

Staying hydrated is also key to a fun and safe day in the sun. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. You should also avoid sugary drinks like sodas and juices, which can make you more dehydrated.

If you’re experiencing severe dehydration, come see our team at Advance ER for treatment.
