We’ve all heard the stories of people suffering crushing chest pain with their obvious heart attack symptoms, but others seem to be caught unawares with only heartburn-like discomfort. In North Dallas, there are two Advance ER locations staffed with board-certified physicians that are ready to treat you in any kind of emergency.
“Chest pain can range all over the scale from mild to severe,” said Advance ER physician Dr. Rajesh Rao. “It’s good to know all the common symptoms of heart attacks and strokes, in case you only experience one or two of them.”
What are the symptoms for heart attacks?
According to the American Heart Association®, these are the symptoms commonly found in stroke, heart attack and cardiac arrest:
Stroke:
- Face drooping
- Arm weakness
- Speech difficulty
Heart Attack:
- Chest discomfort
- Discomfort in one or both arms, jaw, neck, stomach
- Shortness of breath
- Cold sweat, nausea, lightheadedness
Cardiac Arrest:
- Sudden loss of responsiveness
- No normal breathing
“If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 or come to the nearest Advance ER right away,” said Dr. Rao. “Every minute counts so act right away.”
What if it’s not that serious?
It’s common to worry that you’re jumping to conclusions over your dizziness or heartburn symptoms, but even if you are sent home with a clean bill of health, it’s better to be cautious and come to Advance ER to have a doctor check you out than to risk heart or brain damage.
“We’re happy to check you out and make sure everything is ok,” said Dr. Rao. “I can’t stress it enough—if you even suspect you or a loved one might be having a heart attack or stroke, come right in.”
