Stomach Pain

Stomach pain is a very common complaint in emergency rooms.  About 7 million people aged 18 and older visit the ER each year with complaints of abdominal pain.  It is usually serious and can be easily diagnosed and treated.  However, pain can be a sign of a serious illness.  It is important that you be seen by a physician who will conduct a thorough examination and order tests if needed.

Abdominal pain may occur anywhere between your chest and groin. This is often referred to as the stomach region or belly.  Almost everyone has pain in the abdomen at some point. Most of the time, it is not serious.   Your level of pain does not always reflect the seriousness of the condition causing the pain.

Some abdominal pain requires emergency medical care.  Visit Advance ER for medical help right away if you experience severe abdominal pain and:

  • Are currently being treated for cancer
