According to this article on Forbes we may be looking at a real possibility of having another round of flu. Can you believe it? It is mid April and we are looking at the flu season being extended. The flu season really peaked about three months ago and if you are like me you knew someone affected by it.
This season was particularly tough on the DFW area. I live just east of Sherman and our little school system shut down for multiple days as there were so many kids out with this bug.
When two different strains of the flu virus widely circulate and peak at different intervals during the season, you run the risk of two waves of the flu occurring. The issue is that having been infected with one strain of the flu doesn’t give you immunity to another strain necessarily, unless the two strains are very similar in makeup. So we can then indeed catch the flu twice in one season due to the stains being different. Lucky us..
Here are some common symptoms you may experience if you have the flu:
- Body aches
- Runny nose
Unfortunately due to the 2017-2018 flu season a virus strain named H3N2 was widely circulated exposing and spreading it around the U.S. We are now however finding the emergence of a second strain from the Yamagata family start to rear its head.
As you can see from the CDC report we are starting to see elevated levels of those experiencing the flu once more. As always if there is anything we can do for those you love through this extended flu season please do let us know. We care about your family and want them all safe and well.
